Club Purpose

The North Shore Rock & Mineral Club (NSRMC) was formed in 1958 to stimulate interest in the collection of minerals and to disseminate knowledge of mineralogy, collecting and classification of materials and their application to the arts so that greater pleasure may be derived from these hobbies.

Membership

Annual dues are $10 for an individual and $15 for a family, or couple. Potential members must attend a regular meeting to join the club. Members receive a monthly club newsletter (September thru June) and are invited to attend many "club only" field trips, during the rockhunting and collecting season. For more membership information, please email our Membership Chair, Ron Zeheb, at RZeheb@yahoo.com

Monthly Meeting

The members of the Club meet at 7:45 p.m., on the third Friday of the month, September through June, at the Hamilton Wenham Community House at 284 Bay Road (Route1A South), in South Hamilton. The Community House is on the corner of Asbury Street, which is next door to Patton Park and across from the South Hamilton Fire Station.

During inclement weather, please call Club President Steve Taney (978-794-3416), or email, STaney@comcast.net for meeting information.

Field Trips

NSRMC members enjoy many field trips during the spring, summer and fall months. Day trips are usually arranged and longer trips generally occur on traditional three-day holiday weekends.

Field Trips are announced at meetings and are published in the newsletter. Club members also receive Field Trip Alert emails.

For information about upcoming field trips, see our Field Trip page.

Newsletter

Mineral Matter is the newsletter of the Northshore Rock & Mineral Club and is published and emailed to the members. Members who do not have email service are mailed a copy through the USPS.

Mineral Matter is published every month, except July and August, when we keep in touch through email and go rock hunting and gold panning. To receive a sample copy of the newsletter, call: Tom Boynton, Editor; by phone, (978) 927-6558 or e-mail, boyntotl@comcast.net

Annual Show

The North Shore Rock & Mineral Club hosts the Annual New England Gem & Mineral Show on the first weekend in May at the Topsfield Fairgrounds on Route 1 North, Topsfield, MA. For more information about the show, please visit the Show Information page.

Micromounters

The Northshore Rock & Mineral Club Micromounters meet the second Wednesday of every month in Burlington, MA.
All members and visitors are welcome.

Code of Ethics

I will respect both private and public property and will do no collecting on privately owned land without the owner's permission.

I will keep informed on all laws, regulations or rules governing collecting on public lands and will observe them.

I will, to the best of my ability, ascertain the boundary lines of property on which I plan to collect.

I will use no firearms or blasting material in collecting areas.

I will cause no willful damage to property of any kind -- fences, signs, buildings, etc.

I will leave all gates as found.

I will build fires in designated or safe places only and will be certain they are completely extinguished before leaving the area.

I will discard no burning material -- matches, cigarettes, etc.

I will fill all excavation holes which may be dangerous to livestock.

I will not contaminate wells, creeks, or other water supplies.

I will cause no willful damage to collecting material and will take home only what I can reasonably use.

I will support the rockhound project H.E.L.P. (Help Eliminate Litter Please) and will leave all collecting areas devoid of litter, regardless of how found.

I will cooperate with field-trip leaders and those in designated authority in all collecting areas.

I will report to my club or federation officers, Bureau of Land Management or other authorities, any deposit of petrified wood or other materials on public lands which should be protected for the enjoyment of future generations for public educational and scientific purposes.

I will appreciate and protect our heritage of natural resources.

I will observe the "Golden Rule," will use "Good Outdoor Manners," and will at all times conduct myself in a manner which will add to the stature and public "image" of rockhounds everywhere.
